Walmart designated Share Our Strength as a national partner to end childhood hunger in America
In May 2010, Walmart designated Share Our Strength® as a national partner to end childhood hunger in America, part of its $2 billion commitment over five years to fight hunger in the United States by partnering with leading national anti-hunger organizations.
With Walmart's support, Share Our Strength will make an even greater impact on the childhood hunger crisis in the United States through its No Kid Hungry™ campaign. Working together, Walmart and Share Our Strength will reach more of the 17 million U.S. children who struggle with hunger each year, bringing the country a step closer to making No Kid Hungry a reality.
Walmart has committed $1.5 million to Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters, a cooking-based nutrition education program, which teaches families how to prepare healthy, tasty meals on a limited budget. This generous support will provide critical resources needed for Share Our Strength to reach more families in more areas of the country and position Cooking Matters for future growth through key capacity building investments.
The Walmart partnership will enable Share Our Strength to expand the resources it offers nationwide, enabling Cooking Matters to reach more than 11,000 families annually through Cooking Matters' signature cooking-based courses. Walmart's support will also make possible the launch of Shopping Matters, Cooking Matters' first nationwide program, serving more than 5,400 families. In addition, Walmart will help underwrite Cooking Matters' expansion into 3 to 5 new markets, and help Cooking Matters to reach more than 6,000 children under five in childcare centers through Cooking Matters for Child Care Professionals.
