There are some truly alarming findings in the report, not the least of which is that a whopping 40% of all New Yorkers are purchasing less food in order to stretch food resources and money. Another alarming trend, one that lays bare the depth of the problem, is that it is the college educated and middle-income New Yorkers who are experiencing the biggest jump in difficulty affording food. … Half of city residents with annual household incomes of less than $25,000; 43% households with children; 41% unemployed city residents; 38% female city residents and 43% residents with a high school degree or below had difficulty affording needed food.
