We Need YOU to Nominate a Hunger Warrior

If you’re reading this blog, on this website, I have to assume you’re one of us: a compassionate and perceptive citizen concerned enough about our nation’s education, health, security, and economy, that you have committed yourself—in some way—to joining Share Our Strength and its many supporters in the movement to end childhood hunger in America. We’re an especially enlightened bunch, if you ask me.
Last year at Share Our Strength’s Conference of Leaders, I was honored with the Share Our Strength Advocate award, given by the organization as part Spirit Award, part Most Likely to Succeed, part Cheerleading Team Captain, and in my case, part Best Looking (naturally, darling). This gesture was extremely meaningful to me; to be praised and thanked for the work that has become such an important part of my life, made up for the many bang-my-head-against-a-wall, exasperating days that inevitably turn up in the life of someone working to solve a real world problem.
If I dare say, however, the more profound recognition was as a member of this exceptional community, deeply united in our pursuit of a shared goal. I realized the magnitude of this thing that I will now forever be a part of (like it or not!). Here with me were advocates and activists making real change in their communities and on the national stage, CEOs committed to the cause so intently that it has changed the entire face of their business, and of course, the impressive staff of Share Our Strength, innovating every day in their energetic work towards an ambitious goal.
My charge to you, then, reader—as a lover of lunch, a fanatic for free breakfast, a nutrition nut, and a summer meals enthusiast—is to spend the couple of minutes it takes to submit an award nomination for a hunger warrior you know who is making a difference. Acknowledgement and gratitude are powerful motivators, and motivation is not an insignificant ingredient in the recipe for making sure every child in America has reliable, healthy meals every single day.
