Ruth Stemler

Ruth Stemler, M.S., R.D., received her bachelor’s degree in dietetics and institutional management from Kansas State University in 1972 and became a registered dietitian that same year. In 1992 she received a master’s of science degree in health promotion from Oklahoma State University. She has been an active member of the nutrition and dietetics community for 40 years. She has practiced in the area of community nutrition, culinary, food service management, dietetic education, clinical dietetics and consultation. She has served in various leadership roles in professional organizations at the national, state and local level. She served as the founding board chair of Hunger Free Colorado.

Stemler is the Colorado State Director of Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to end childhood hunger in the U.S. She directs the organization’s nutrition education program, Cooking Matters, which is the largest of 32 programs in the country that reaches more than 8,000 families each year. She is also director of Share Our Strength’s Colorado No Kid Hungry Campaign, a partnership of Governor John Hickenlooper, Share Our Strength, and Hunger Free Colorado. The Campaign’s mission is to increase access to federal nutrition programs and to maximize the availability of nutritious foods in individual families’ homes and in food banks and pantries.
