Walking with Team No Kid Hungry to End this Crisis
Posted by Mindy Segal on Wednesday, April 28, 2010
When I opened my restaurant 5 years ago, I was very fortunate never to have witnessed or experienced hunger first-hand. However, Hot Chocolate opened in a transitional neighborhood in Chicago, and I saw real hunger just blocks from my doors for the first time.
Not long after, a fellow chef and good friend, Michael Kornick, asked me to a volunteer for Share Our Strength and participate in Taste of the Nation Chicago. The more I’ve learned about hunger, the more outraged I am that there are hungry children in this country where so many of us have so much.
Since I make my living feeding people, I feel strongly that we chefs have a strong obligation to end this crisis that is too often overlooked. To help make a difference, I am going to walk with Share Our Strength’s Team No Kid Hungry this Mother’s Day in New York City during O, the Magazine’s, Live Your Best Life Walk. Together with hundreds of other walkers, we will raise money to support the No Kid Hungry™ campaign and its goal of ending childhood hunger in America by 2015.
I am grateful to be in a position to give back and to help make a difference. This Mother’s Day, I’ll walk in honor of my mother and all those mothers who sacrifice to give their kids nutritious meals and the best shot a strong and healthy future. Please join me or support those walking as part of Team No Kid Hungry by registering or donating today.
