How I Raised More than $9,000 to End Childhood Hunger

Team No Kid Hungry logoAs I prepare to head to New York this weekend to participate in O Magazine’s Live Your Best Life Walk, I am happy to report that I am one of the walk’s top 10 fundraisers, and, as a result, I’ll be walking with Oprah!

I chose to walk for Share Our Strength’s Team No Kid Hungry because I believe in Share Our Strength’s mission to end childhood hunger in America. I can’t imagine my children going hungry, and I hope that by doing something big to help, I’ll inspire my own children and show them that they can make a difference for other kids.

Our family has spent the past several months getting everyone we know to do their part. In fact, my kids’ school, the International Magnet School in East Hartford, Conn., got involved by having the students collect their spare change for a week. They raised $125 for Team No Kid Hungry. My family also helped me sell hotdogs at our church, Buckingham United Church of Christ, one Sunday. We called it “Hotdogs to End Hunger” and raised $130.

I also reached out to many friends, family and neighbors, asking them to donate and visited several local businesses in Glastonbury, Conn., who also donated. At last count, 134 wonderful people have donated on my fundraising page. Anyone can make a difference!

You can still donate through Mother’s Day, so if you‘d like to donate, please visit www.lybl2010walk.com/michelemudrick

This is going to be a Mother’s Day I will never forget!
