Cooking Matters

Megan Crowe

Megan is from Baltimore, MD and currently resides there with her parents and twin brother, Matthew. She graduated from Gettysburg College in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health science. Megan worked at the Center for Public Service at Gettysburg College for two years where she was the Nutrition Program Coordinator for the Campus Kitchens Project, a student-led non-profit organization that recovers unused food and creates meals for the community. In this role she had the opportunity to create and teach two nutrition programs to children in the Gettysburg community. It was here that she realized her passion for nutrition and for providing nutrition education and access to members of the community. Americorps and the Cooking Matters program seemed like a perfect fit and a great way to spend her first year out of college.

In fact, just last night I experienced the power of Jack’s idea at work in a Cooking Matters class at MC Terrell Elementary School in Southeast DC. It was week four of our six week class and we were talking about snack foods, everyone’s favorite. On the menu for tonight were stovetop macaroni and cheese, trail mix, fruit smoothies, and a raspberry lime fizz drink.
