Throwing a Successful Office Bake Sale

Posted by Lauren Katz on Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Summer MealsI knew working for Share Our Strength would entail being surrounded by people with a strong dedication to ending childhood hunger, but never did I expect to meet so many driven and passionate employees that will go above and beyond their 9 to 5 schedule to make a difference.

For the past few weeks, I was devoting a good portion of my time in the office coordinating and planning the staff bake sale and raffle. Whether I was making phone calls in request for gift certificate donations or recruiting staff members to bring in baked goods, it soon became very apparent that everyone was interested in contributing. Many retail managers I approached for donations didn’t think twice before committing. One local food truck, Tasty Kabob, expressed so much interest in our cause that they donated $250 to Share Our Strength!

While we were nervous that we wouldn’t have enough baked goods to meet the demand, I was pleasantly surprised when our cart started to overflow with cookies, brownies, cakes, muffins and everything in between. The smell of all things sweet radiated across the office, luring the staff into making a donation and receiving a pastry in return.

It’s easy to get people to support your bake sale when the money goes to a good cause. Funds raised from bake sales like this one directly support our work to end childhood hunger. Through the Great American Bake Sale, Share Our Strength was able to make many mini grants this summer to expand summer meals work.

After weeks of hard work, I was very happy with the final outcome. Our bake sale and raffle raised more than $900, and the reaction from the staff was outstanding. We were thrilled with how it turned out.
