Wrapping Up the Summer Meals Tour of 2010

Posted by Katherine Van Steenburgh on Thursday, September 2, 2010

Leader 1Labor Day is just around the corner, back to school specials are in full effect and the summer of 2010 is coming to a close.

With the end of summer comes the end of the Summer Meals Tour that Alice and I have taken these past few months.

This summer, in just 13 days, Alice and I visited….

  • 6 states (Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, California)
  • 17 different cities and towns
  • 18 Share Our Strength partners
  • And 31 summer sites

Leader 4

Across the country (from San Diego, CA to Rogersville, TN), we met families that don’t make enough to cover the cost of lunch and breakfast for their kids during the summer. But we always met and heard the stories of leaders dedicated to providing healthy summer meals to kids in their communities.

If it weren’t for leaders (like the ones we had the privilege of meeting this summer) many more kids would go without lunch and food during the summer.

To see and hear some of those people for yourself, check out our photos on Flickr and our videos on YouTube.

Leader 3And we want to take the chance to say THANK YOU to the leaders we met with this summer. THANK YOU FOR FIGHTING AGAINST CHILDHOOD HUNGER IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

And if you missed our earlier content about Summer Meals, here are three of our favorite posts about the tour:
