Will You Join Me?

Throughout the year, I make my home in two very different places: Santa Barbara, California and Livingston, Montana. Those are two communities that don’t have much in common on the surface, but they’re both affected by childhood hunger. It’s important to remember that no matter who you are and where you live, there’s a kid near you whose future is being compromised because he can’t get enough to eat at home.
In a lot of ways, November and December are make-or-break months for child hunger. Millions of children won’t get to experience the holidays the way many of us do, gathered around the dinner table in celebration and thanks.
This time of year it’s critical for folks like us to step up to help these kids. That’s why our No Kid Hungry Partners have agreed to match, dollar for dollar, any donation you make—up to $500,000 through December 31. That means that your donation of $100 becomes $200, $250 becomes $500, or $500 becomes $1,000.
There’s no more important time to give. I’m committed to doing my part. How about you?
Working with the No Kid Hungry Campaign has taught me that the whole of this movement we’re building together is greater than the sum of its parts. Millions of kids need our help—in all 50 states, in every county and parish, in every city and town. And by coming together and doing what we can, we will end childhood hunger in America.
So I’ll say it once more. Today, I’m in for the long haul. How about you?

Dear Mr. Bridges, I lived in Santa Barbara for 40 years, and one year, I believe it was December 1995?, I was going through some hard times. My daughter's school gave me a referral so that I could come and "shop" for food and for a Christmas gift for my daugther. I was in the Unity Store when I saw you and there were news cameras there. I remember hiding my face and walking in the opposite direction so that I would not be captured on film because I felt "ashamed" that I could not provide these things for my daughter. There is no shame in going through hard times and letting someone help you. I know that now. That Christmas we had a very nice meal and my daughter opened very nice presents---I remember one was a book that I selected there at the Unity Store. Anyhow, I always see your face campaigning for the hungry children, and I always remember that day. You are to be commended for your tireless effort in helping the hungry. I will always appreciate the generousity afforded to me that day, and the respect given me as an individual when I was down on my luck. Thank you so much Mr. Bridges. May God bless you!

Jeff,
I grew up in Helena Montana. I've lived in ten states and eight major cities in 47 years. I've lived both poor and well-enough - walked many paths. I see hunger everywhere.
I'm currently making home in Maine near daughters. Maine's population of economically challenged is staggeringly high. Thank you for making such a valuable contribution to ending childhood hunger, Jeff.
