Gregory Silverman is the Senior Manager of Educational Outreach for Share our Strength’s Cooking Matters™. Cooking Matters empowers families at risk of hunger with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make healthy and affordable meals.
Before joining Share our Strength, Greg worked in London, UK as a food consultant for public sector organizations and the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames, was a restaurant owner and chef in Ithaca, NY, and spent time as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Mali. Greg holds a degree in Anthropology from Ithaca College, a certificate in Culinary Arts from the French Culinary Institute and has completed course work for his Msc in Food and Nutritional Policy from the Centre for Food Policy at the City University of London.

Before taking to the court in Orlando this past weekend, the talented NBA All-Stars gathered to give back to the community at the NBA Cares All-Star Day of service. Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters joined NBA players Dwight Howard and Deron Williams, along with NBA Commissioner David Stern, his wife Dianne Stern and NBA Hall of Famer Bob Lanier to teach residents at the Coalition for the Homeless practical healthy cooking and strategic shopping skills.

On Friday I was honored to join First Lady Michelle Obama at an event celebrating the anniversary of her Let’s Move! initiative, and announcing the expansion of the Chefs Move to Schools. With top chefs, the Dallas Cowboys and a raucous crowd of elementary school kids, it truly was a party atmosphere and for good reason.

According to new numbers from the American Farm Bureau Federation, a family dinner will cost about 13 percent more this Thanksgiving than it did in 2010. The new data, released Thursday, shows everything from cranberries to pumpkin pie to turkeys is more expensive this year.
