Gina Petracca

Gina joined Cooking Matters MA last September 2010 as an AmeriCorps National Direct Service Member and has signed on for a second year of volunteer service with Cooking Matters through August 2011. She serves as a course coordinator, is responsible for managing all the volunteers at Taste of the Nation Boston, and helps organize one-time Cooking Matters events in the Boston area. Gina is a 2010 graduate of Bates College in Maine, where she minored in dance and majored in psychology, with a focus on designing interventions that promote health behavior change (such as cooking classes). Gina aspires to attend a nutrition and dietetics graduate program in the near future, and eventually establish a career that combines her love of dance, food, and nutrition.

Ahmed is a dad from Cambridge, Mass. who prepares meals for his kids Khalil and Leylah. Although the family already cooked and ate together, they didn’t always make the healthiest choices before signing up for a Cooking Matters for Families course.

The concept of combining vegetables with baked goods has never sat well with me. When I started my AmeriCorps year with Cooking Matters MA and the culinary instructor decided that we would be making Pineapple-Carrot Muffins, I was less than enthused.
