Emily Gordon is coming from a background in biological research with a strong interest in human health. She just graduated from Cornell University this May with a degree in Biology. As a student, she participated in the UTHSCSA summer research program, where she worked on a research project investigating the neurobiology of schizophrenia. She also spent a semester abroad in Nepal, where she worked on an independent research project exploring the relationship between modern medicine and traditional healing practices in the Khumbu region of Nepal. She is very passionate about food and cooking, especially using fresh, in season, vegetables to create simple healthy meals. As an undergraduate student, she lived in student-run cooperative house, where cooking and eating shared meals was a central part of the community. Emily is committed to supporting local sustainable food systems, and she spent this past summer interning on an organic farm in California, working to grow, harvest and distribute fresh organic produce directly into the community. Emily is excited to join the Operation Frontline team in Seattle as an Americorps member, and she is looking forward to sharing her love of cooking with other people by helping them to develop confidence in the kitchen.
