Sometimes statistics can be difficult to visualize, but our friends at Pivot Point Communications have made it super easy. They created this wonderful graphic that clearly illustrates the hunger problem in America. Check it out and make sure to share with your friends and family.

How many of those kids who recieve free/reduced meals actually need them. There are a lot of kids that need them but middle class children do not need them.

Hi Craig -- Thanks for your question. The USDA (Department of Agriculture) has a strict process in place to verify school meal applications. The income cut-off for reduced price is 185% of the federal poverty line (roughly $41,000 for a family of 4) and 130% for free meals (roughly $29k for a family of 4). At those levels of income, families are struggling to get by, as evidenced by rising rates of participation in nutrition assistance programs across the country.
