Posted by Clay Dunn on Thursday, October 20, 2011
This past weekend, Share Our Strength’s staff, volunteers, and partners gathered in Baltimore for our annual Conference of Leaders to reflect on 2011 and discuss our plans for 2012.
It was an action-packed few days. Many previous attendees will no doubt be interested to see some of the materials, and those who joined us will likely want to share some of the links below with their colleagues.
Here are some highlights that you missed:
- Share Our Strength Founder and CEO Billy Shore stressed the importance of building a lasting movement to end hunger:
- Governor Martin O’Malley of Maryland – the first governor to commit to ending childhood hunger in a state – shared the lessons he has learned in the fight against hunger:
- Share Our Strength’s Senior Staff – including myself – outlined our successes and progress over the last year in terms of awareness, impact and fundraising to end childhood hunger. Here’s a video:
- Josh Wachs, Share Our Strength’s Chief Strategy Officer, talked about our evolving hunger strategy and plans for 2012:
- Bill Ludwig, from the USDA, talked about the role of SNAP (formerly called food stamps) and school breakfast in ending childhood hunger:
-
Amanda Hite, CEO of Talent Revolution, wowed attendees with her session about social media. You can follow Amanda on Twitter.
-
The expansion of our state and city based No Kid Hungry campaigns was illustrated in this video highlighting the campaign launches:
-
Our Conference of Leaders Awards highlighted the inspiring work of individuals and organizations for the work they’ve done in 2011. As Great American Bake Sale volunteer Michelle Gorham shared, “It’s an absolute honor to be a part of this organization that’s going to build the bridge that will close the gap between the food that’s out there and the children that need it.”
-
Photos from the Conference are also available on our Flickr feed.
-
We were treated with a performance by the Orchkids – a program of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra that uses music as a vehicle to provide Baltimore City children with mentoring, encouragement and vision for a promising future. You can learn more about their work on their website.
-
Okay, so one more, just for fun: there was a No Kid Hungry Flash Mob.
It was an inspiring few days in Baltimore. We’re ready for the exciting year ahead – and we hope you’ll be involved in the exciting work that is happening across our network.

I am very happy I found your site, while doing research for a topic i'm posting tomorrow. Believe it or not....i'm planning well ahead of the 2016 election. Just wanted to let you know, I will be sharing your site and blog, on my blog....not only to showcase the hunger issues facing America's children, but one way we can help.
