Cooking Matters Communications Intern

Position Summary
Since 1984, Share Our Strength® has led the fight against hunger and poverty by inspiring and organizing individuals and businesses to share their strengths. Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit, is ending childhood hunger in America by connecting children with the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives. Through its No Kid Hungry Campaign®--a national effort to end childhood hunger in America by 2015--Share Our Strength ensures children in need are enrolled in federal nutrition programs, invests in community organizations fighting hunger, teaches families how to cook healthy meals on a budget, and builds public-private partnerships to end hunger, both nationally and at the state level.
Responsibilities
The Communications intern primarily supports the Colorado's office desire to elevate the phenomenal work being accomplished and raise awareness across the state. This intern will support staff by:
- Documenting and evaluating the various mechanisms currently used for communication purposes (i.e., e-newletters, Twitter, FaceBook, etc.) for the entire Colorado office.
- Conducting an inventory of the numerous activities and outcomes of Share Our Strength's Colorado office, and summarizing findings.
- Conducting research on the most relevant and effective communications mechanisms used in the nonprofit sector, as well as highlight "up and coming" ideas/apps/etc.
- Researching and providing data-driven recommendations on how the Share Our Strength Colorado office can elevate awareness of its programs, activities and outcomes.
- Update and maintain the Colorado's office social media presence, as well as provide training to all team members on the best way to use social media.
- Review and provide recommendations on website presence (including revisions to current wording to ensure that our message is captured.
- Maintain, revise, merge and/or clean databases.
- Provide administrative support on an as-needed basis.
Potential/Additional Duties & Responsibilities
- Produce new language/messaging and test with pre-selected audiences. Report findings.
- Develop or refine materials used for communications purposes in order to simplify efforts and reduce duplication.
- Assist with event planning/messaging.
Interns also assist other team members with general program management activities. Duties include:
- Providing administrative support, including filing and mailing
- Attending and supporting outside events, such as cooking classes, shopping tours or manning booths at events
- Helping team members prepare for conferences and presentations
- Attending and participating in team meetings and events

Culinary Events Intern

Position Summary

Responsibilities
The Culinary Events Intern's primary responsibilities will be to support the Culinary Events Department.
General Responsibilities:
- Answer email inquiries regarding Culinary Events
- Assist with sending shipments from the national office to event sites and volunteers and tracking shipments to their destination
- Attend weekly Field Department and Event meetings
- Assist with special projects as assigned
- Answer phones at front desk as needed
- Assist Coordinators with mailings from the Field department
- Provide support to Field team members
Communications and Social Media:
- Assist with the use of social media tools for marketing Taste of the Nation events including use of Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Movable Type, and You Tube. Specifically creating Facebook pages for each Taste of the Nation event.
- Assist with various communications and media projects and reports.
- Creating and sending press kits upon request
Data Management:
- Work with event management and reporting module in Raiser's Edge to ensure that all event information is entered correctly (training provided) for nearly 70 events
- Work closely with Regional Coordinators & Directors to support their data needs
- Follow up with event organizers on event information - venue, admission times, ticket prices, shipping information, venue and shipping contacts, etc.
Event Support:
- Provide support to national and remote staff as needed
- Research auction items for events that require additional auction support.
- Research food/culinary/hospitality blogs in cities where we hold events, noting who the public relations contact is for event promotion.
Reports to: Senior Operations Manager

Grassroots Fundraising Intern

Responsibilities:
Manage a portfolio of Great American Bake Sale and grassroots fundraising participants:
- Provide support and encouragement to convert registrations to actual events
- Collect and share participant stories with appropriate audiences
- PSA placement outreach
- Grassroots outreach to corporations and bakeries and restaurants to help increase participation
- Provide administrative support
Assist the Grassroots Fundraising Coordinator in the implementation of youth engagement activities including:
- Recruit college students and work with the Coordinator to maintain relations with 20+ college Ambassadors as Youth Ambassadors or at No Kid Hungry University Chapters
- Assist in the creation of promotional materials
- Create and help implement advocacy and fundraising ideas to be put in place by
Ambassadors
- Provide Administrative support
- Provide additional support for marketing and fundraising programs and event planning

Operations & Planning Intern

Responsibilities:
The intern will primarily assist with evaluation, research, and administrative duties related to the No Kid Hungry campaign and its mission to end childhood hunger in America. College credit or a small stipend is available.
The Operations and Planning intern primarily supports No Kid Hungry and the Community Investments Team long-term strategic efforts and administrative needs, which are vital to the campaign's ability to develop content for cross-departmental usage as well as its ability to provide operational planning assistance to the organization. Projects would include:
- Supporting the Business Operations and Financial Analyst Managers, as well as the Fields and Grants sub-teams and with administrative and project-oriented tasks
- Compiling check requests, preparation and production of materials for meetings and events
- Interfacing with relevant vendors, file management
- Responding to certain external inquiries, reviewing and updating selected documents
- Assisting with the implementation of the new grants management software, responding to internal grant-related inquiries, and assisting the Grants team with any other defined projects
- Assisting with the planning and implementation of the Summer Meals Roadshow and the State Convening in August

Communications Intern

Responsibilities:
The Communications Intern primary responsibilities will be to support the Public Relations and Digital Teams of the Communications Department. Public Relations Needs Include: coordination and monitoring of public service announcements, pitching, and other media needs.
Digital Needs Include: Assist with the production and publishing of the No Kid Hungry Blog, web production and mobile texting.
- Serve as point person for NKH2 media outreach
- Building and updating media lists
- Compiling reports and metrics
- Assisting in preparing NKH September
- Develop and implement updates to relevant web content using a web-based content management system
- Use our customer relationship manager software to evaluate constituents across the spectrum of Share Our Strength
- Beta test Strength.org as we rebuild the site to launch on August 15, 2012
- Support the digital communications team in the collection and posting of No Kid Hungry blog content

Human Resources Intern

Responsibilities:
The human resources intern is responsible for coordinating administrative and human resources support functions in the Human Resources department. The intern in the Human Resources department will have an opportunity to learn about all aspects of human capital management and human resources functions.
- Coordinates and assists with HR functions including benefits, recruitment, employee manual updates, etc.
- orks on several projects that touch multiple disciplines in HR including orientation, learning and development programs and researching an Applicant Tracking System
- Creates new employee and recruitment files and assist with filing employee information
- Works with HR team to organize employee events and activities
- Assists HR team with administering the Annual Employee Satisfaction Survey
- Works with HR department to effectively execute Wellness Week in June

Cooking Matters Educational Outreach Intern

Responsibilities:
The intern will primarily assist with communications, research, and administrative duties related to Cooking Matters mission of empowering families with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to prepare healthy and affordable meals. College credit or a small stipend is available.
The Educational Outreach intern primarily supports Cooking Matters educational outreach efforts, which are vital to creating new partnership, promoting high-quality educational tools and expanding the reach of Cooking Matters. Interns support educational outreach staff by:
- Processing Shopping Matters tour surveys
- Providing administrative support of Shopping Matters and Cooking Matters for Child Care Professionals grants
- Researching new partnerships and avenues for dissemination of educational tools
- Creating presentations for conferences and trainings
- Crafting outreach messaging related to educational outreach opportunities
Interns also assist other team members with general program management activities. Duties include:
- Assisting with projects and internal record-keeping that support the core program delivery model
- Providing administrative support, including filing and mailing
- Helping team members prepare for conferences and presentations
- Attending and participating in team meetings and events
- Providing research and support for varied projects, customized to the intern's professional goals
